Widow's Peak
Mesa · Settler Territory · Danger 6
Widow's Peak is a mesa in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
Highest point in the Sangre Mountains. Nahi name: "Where Sky Mourns." Spanish name: "Pico de la Viuda." American name: "Widow's Peak" because six surveying crews died trying to map it. Altitude: 9,400 feet. Breathable air: barely. Rational explanations: none. The peak hums. Seismic activity, the geologists say. The Nahi say it's breathing. Railroad wants to blast through it. Jasper "Boom" McGraw says he can do it. Physics says he's right. Everything else says he's wrong.
Getting there
Widow's Peak is a mesa; it sits in the Settler Territory zone, in the Sangre Mountains region, and expects a character of at least level 7. It is dangerous country, and the roads to it are worse than the place itself. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.
What hunts here
6 creatures are known to range around Widow's Peak: Ashford Survey Crew (level 7), Mesa Vulture (level 6), Pale Lobo (level 17), Peak Catamount (level 8), Summit Rattlesnake (level 4) and The Plunge-Line Engineer (level 9). Each is recorded separately in the Field Guide, and a first kill on any species pays a substantial one-off experience bonus.
