The Three Factions
Choose where you stand
Faction choice in Desperados Destiny
Every Desperados Destiny character commits to one of three factions at character creation. The faction shapes your starting town, your opening quests, your default skill bonuses, your starting reputation across the territory, and the type of content available to you in the early game. Faction reputation is tracked separately from character level and runs from -50 (active enemy) to +50 (Ally), with each step changing how the world reacts to you. Most players will end up around +30 with their chosen faction by the time they finish the level 1–10 onboarding arc.
The Settler Alliance
Headquartered in Red Gulch, the Settler Alliance is the faction of frontier commerce, defense, and orderly expansion. Settler characters start with +1 to Crafting, +10% NPC sell prices, and -1 material cost on standard crafting recipes. The faction's opening quest chain runs through Red Gulch's bank, sheriff's office, and outfitter's shop. Settler-Ally items lean toward direct combat and economic mastery — sturdy revolvers, well-tended duster coats, reinforced wagon wheels.
The Nahi Coalition
Based out of the Mesa region, the Nahi Coalition is the faction of ancestral land, ritual practice, and disciplined defense. Nahi characters start with +1 to Gathering, +1 to Ritual, and -1 Energy cost on long travel. Their opening quest chain runs through the Mesa council fire, the trading post, and the spirit walks. Nahi-Ally items lean toward stealth, ritual, and survival — knife work, spirit-hide armor, herb tinctures that affect the deck.
The Frontera
The Frontera live outside formal law. They have no single hub — instead, they operate from a network of hidden desert camps, contested boomtowns, and saloons where the sheriff is on their payroll. Frontera characters start with +2 max Nerve, +1 to Crime, +1 to Flee, and +15% pay on outlaw jobs. Their opening quest chain is less linear than the other two — Frontera onboarding is structured as a series of escalating jobs from increasingly dangerous contacts. Frontera-Ally items lean toward speed, sleight-of-hand, and high-risk-high-reward — concealed pistols, modified rifles, deck-altering ritual items.
How faction reputation works
Faction reputation moves through five named bands: Hostile (≤ -21), Wary (-20 to -1), Neutral (0 to 19), Ally (20 to 49), and Hero (50+). Each band changes the world's response to you. Hostile factions actively attack on sight, close their gates, and refuse to trade. Wary factions tolerate you but charge higher prices. Neutral is the default. Ally unlocks faction-exclusive item variants and shops. Hero unlocks the faction's legendary item set and end-game content unique to that path.
