El Mando
Level 20 Boss · The Bandit Fortress
El Mando is one of the boss threats a player meets in Desperados Destiny, sitting at level 20.
Field notes
The Bandit Fortress commander — a former Mexican federal officer who chose sovereign crime after seeing the corruption on both sides. Calm, deliberate, more dangerous than anything in this tier. Three phases: enforcer adds, twin-sidearm single combat, an enraged charge at 30% HP. Honored-rep players get acknowledgment before combat.
What you are walking into
El Mando is level 20, carries 300 health, and is classed Omen, a boss encounter. That makes it a mid-game threat that expects a built character. It fights by attrition — damage that keeps working after the hand is played, so a long fight favours it rather than you. Every exchange resolves through the Destiny Deck: you draw five cards, choose what to hold, and the resulting poker hand decides how the action lands. Suit matches amplify the result, so the same fight against El Mando plays out differently each time you take it on.
Where to find El Mando
El Mando is encountered at The Bandit Fortress. You will need to have discovered and travelled to that location before it can appear as a target, and travel between regions carries its own risks — routes are rolled for interception, and a bad roll puts an encounter between you and your destination. The full entry for The Bandit Fortress covers what else is there.
What it drops
A kill pays 1400 experience and between $35 and $98. Its loot table can yield El Mandos Sash, Cursed Iron, Contraband and Canvas Bolt. Drops are rolled per kill, so a full set takes repeat hunting. The first time you kill any species it is also recorded in your Field Guide, which pays a large one-off experience bonus and counts toward the Guide's completion milestones.
