The Wetlands is a wilderness in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
A marshy lowland where a sluggish river spreads into a maze of channels and pools. Cypress trees draped with moss create an eerie atmosphere. The wetlands are rich in swamp wood, reeds, and medicinal plants. Frogs and fish are abundant, but so are alligators and disease-carrying mosquitoes.
What you notice standing there
Humid and oppressive. Water gurgles and splashes. Insects buzz in clouds. Moss hangs from twisted trees, creating curtains of green. The mud sucks at your boots with every step. Something large splashes in the distance.
Getting there
The Wetlands is a wilderness; it sits in the Frontier zone, in the Frontier region. It carries real risk; travel here is not something to do underlevelled. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.

6 creatures are known to range around The Wetlands: Bog Apparition (level 5), Bog Drifter (level 6), Marsh Cottonmouth (level 3), Swamp Heron (level 4), The Drowned Claim (level 9) and Wetland Gator (level 5). Each is recorded separately in the Field Guide, and a first kill on any species pays a substantial one-off experience bonus.
