Deep Tunnel Entrance
Mine · Danger 10
Deep Tunnel Entrance is a mine in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
The mouth of the deepest, most dangerous section of Goldfinger's Mine. This is where the original disaster occurred - a catastrophic collapse that killed dozens of miners and unleashed something far worse than cave-ins. The tunnel descends into absolute darkness, and those who enter speak of voices in the dark, ghostly lights, and an overwhelming sense of dread. The gold down here is incredibly rich, but it comes with a terrible price. The workers call it "cursed gold" and whisper that the mine itself is hungry.
What you notice standing there
Cold air flows from the tunnel entrance like the breath of some vast underground beast. The timber supports are newer here, replacing the rotted frames that failed during the collapse. Burn marks and blast scoring mar the walls. A memorial plaque lists 47 names of miners who died in the original disaster. The deeper sections glow with an eerie phosphorescence that has no natural explanation. Experienced miners cross themselves before entering. The smell of sulfur, decay, and something sweet and rotten permeates the air. At night, people swear they hear picks striking stone and men singing work songs from tunnels that have been sealed for years.
Getting there
Deep Tunnel Entrance is a mine; in the Sangre Mountains region, and expects a character of at least level 15. It is among the most dangerous ground in the Territory. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.
