Dead Man's Stretch is a canyon in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
A treacherous passage through the canyon where countless travelers have met their end. Bleached bones line the trail. Bandits lurk in the shadows. The only direct route between settlements - and the most dangerous.
What you notice standing there
The walls close in here. Shadows hide a thousand ambush points. Vultures circle overhead. Every traveler moves with hand on weapon, eyes scanning the cliffs.
Getting there
Dead Man's Stretch is a canyon; it sits in the Sangre Canyon zone, in the Devils Canyon region, and expects a character of at least level 8. It is among the most dangerous ground in the Territory. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.

6 creatures are known to range around Dead Man's Stretch: Canyon Cutthroat (level 16), Canyon Vulture (level 12), Dead Man's Ambusher (level 14), Stretch Sidewinder (level 13), The Hollow Wayfarer (level 17) and The Passage Warden (level 20). Each is recorded separately in the Field Guide, and a first kill on any species pays a substantial one-off experience bonus.
