Buffalo Grounds
Wilderness · Hunting Grounds · Danger 6
Buffalo Grounds is a wilderness in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
Sacred hunting grounds where buffalo still roam, though their numbers are far fewer than in the days of the ancestors. Hunter Ohanzee leads sanctioned hunts, ensuring every part of the buffalo is used as tradition demands. Hunting here without permission is a grave offense.
What you notice standing there
Rolling grasslands stretch to the horizon. Distant shapes of buffalo move slowly across the plains. The grass whispers in the wind. This is a place of both abundance and mourning - for the herds that once blackened the earth are now scattered and small.
Getting there
Buffalo Grounds is a wilderness; it sits in the Hunting Grounds zone, in the Sacred Lands region. It is dangerous country, and the roads to it are worse than the place itself. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.
What hunts here
4 creatures are known to range around Buffalo Grounds: Hollow Crow (level 4), Mesa Hawk (level 3), Pronghorn (level 2) and The Stampede-Father (level 15). Each is recorded separately in the Field Guide, and a first kill on any species pays a substantial one-off experience bonus.
