The Painted Cliffs
Sacred Site · Coalition Lands · Danger 4
The Painted Cliffs is a sacred site in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
A towering sandstone escarpment where the Tsa'ke — the tribe that refused the original pact — recorded their history in pattern-language pictographs two centuries ago. Panel after panel climbs the rock face, faded ochre and charcoal telling of a negotiated withdrawal the Coalition chose to forget. Bright Thread is one of the last who can read them. The cliffs catch the late sun and burn red, and the wind carries the dry rattle of two hundred years of silence.
What you notice standing there
Late sun turns the sandstone the color of a fresh wound — either coincidence or the exact reason the Tsa'ke picked this wall. Two hundred years of wind have worn the lowest panels to ghosts of pigment; Bright Thread reads those from memory now, not from what's left on the rock.
Getting there
The Painted Cliffs is a sacred site; it sits in the Coalition Lands zone, in the Sacred Lands region, and expects a character of at least level 13. It carries real risk; travel here is not something to do underlevelled. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.
What hunts here
6 creatures are known to range around The Painted Cliffs: Academic Escort Guard (level 14), Cliff Pronghorn (level 14), Coalition Cliff-Keeper (level 15), Painted Fury (level 16), The Glyph-Eater (level 18) and Trespassing Academic (level 12). Each is recorded separately in the Field Guide, and a first kill on any species pays a substantial one-off experience bonus.
