The Hollow Place

The Hollow Place is a sacred site in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
A hidden canyon accessible only to those the Chief trusts with the terrible truth. In the center stands a massive monument—The Seal of Spirit. Stone carved with warnings in languages dead before English was born. The seal thrums with power. Water flows around it in an impossible circle, defying gravity. Elder Soaring Eagle reveals the burden: "The Nahi don't guard land. We guard a prison. Something called The Bound One, sealed 2,000 years ago, sleeps below." The seal is weakening. The water is dying. And the thing beneath grows restless. Congratulations. Now you know what keeps the elders awake at night.
What you notice standing there
Water circles the seal stone in a ring that climbs instead of falling — the first thing every visitor reaches out to touch, and the last thing the elders let them touch twice. The carved warnings predate every language anyone here can still read. It hums a half-step below hearing, felt in your fillings before it's felt in your ears.
Getting there
The Hollow Place is a sacred site; it sits in the Coalition Lands zone, in the Sacred Lands region, and expects a character of at least level 8. It is dangerous country, and the roads to it are worse than the place itself. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.

4 creatures are known to range around The Hollow Place: Hollow Bat (level 9), Hollow Echo (level 13), The Seep (level 12) and The Warden-Wraith (level 15). Each is recorded separately in the Field Guide, and a first kill on any species pays a substantial one-off experience bonus.
