Stone Circle is a sacred site in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
Eleven standing stones older than the oldest Nahi oral history, placed in a configuration that tracks celestial events with precision requiring knowledge the builders are not supposed to have had. The stones hum on certain nights. The Nahi explanation involves the word "remember" used as a verb for the stones rather than the people.
What you notice standing there
The stones cast shadows that track the sun with mechanical precision. The ground between them has been walked bare over generations. Wind moves through the gaps in the ring with a tone that is almost a note. Almost. At night, under the right moon, the shadows describe a pattern that the Nahi say is a map. To what, they do not share with outsiders.
Getting there
Stone Circle is a sacred site; in the Town region, and expects a character of at least level 12. It is dangerous country, and the roads to it are worse than the place itself. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.
