Offering Cairn is a shrine in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
A cairn of stones in the heart of the Bone Garden where objects for the dead are left. The Nahi bring specific items for specific people. Outsiders bring whatever they think is appropriate. Bone Mother reviews both with equal seriousness and the occasional note that the dead in question would have preferred something different.
What you notice standing there
The cairn has grown over generations to the size of a small structure. Objects protrude from between the stones — beads, tools, cloth, things whose purpose is not obvious but whose placement was deliberate. Wind moves over the stones in a way that occasionally produces something like a chord. Bone Mother says that is the stones settling. She says this with the specific tone people use when they know the true answer and have decided the questioner is not ready for it.
Getting there
Offering Cairn is a shrine; in the Town region, and expects a character of at least level 12. It is dangerous country, and the roads to it are worse than the place itself. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.
