Mine Shaft Entrance
Mine · Danger 7
Mine Shaft Entrance is a mine in the Sangre Territory, the 1869 frontier setting of the free browser MMO Desperados Destiny.
The place itself
The main gateway to the underground labyrinth where fortunes are made and lives are lost. Foreman "Hardrock" Harrigan stands at the entrance with his clipboard, sending men into darkness with little regard for safety. The timber supports creak ominously, and everyone knows the deep shaft is unstable.
What you notice standing there
The shaft mouth yawns like a hungry mouth, swallowing streams of tired men with lunch pails and pickaxes. Steam from underground vents creates ghostly fog. The mechanical lift clanks and groans as cages descend into blackness. The smell of sweat, ore dust, and fear permeates everything. Cave-ins are so common they barely make conversation.
Getting there
Mine Shaft Entrance is a mine; in the Sangre Mountains region. It is dangerous country, and the roads to it are worse than the place itself. Travel in Desperados Destiny costs energy and takes in-game time, and a route can be interrupted — the danger rating of the road feeds directly into how often that happens. Locations must be discovered before you can travel to them directly, and discovering one for the first time pays experience.
